About LeArts

The Origins

LeArts started as a labour of love approach to design and branding. The initial idea was applying the same principals as in artmaking. What was discovered a long the way, was that the creative process requires a respect and a high level of dedication.

    Director/Designer

Luis Zavala grew up in a straw hut, in a land far, far away. Since moving to America, he has enjoyed home-grown delights such as free speech, apple pie and football. His flair for the design arts has landed him in the middle of Los Angeles.

"We had a clear idea of where we wanted our brand to move towards visually, but the result by far surpassed our expectations."

--Luixe

"The way the images move across the browser, much like a roll of film, is a great touch and a clear understanding that how our work is displayed is very important.

--Luixe

"Because Luixe is a contemporary brand which focuses on film and photography, we wanted to make sure we give them an almost classic, vintage look as a take on the analog medium set againts today's digital world."

I became interested in this video primarily because of it's use of the Canon 7D. That and I guess digging some hawaiian waves doesn't hurt.

Developing some title treatments for possible use in print, web and screen. Looking for a clean look as the title of the project is a bit long so it creates for a challenging proposition.

I am continually amazed by a studio's ability to reuse the same fonts previously used and rework them to make them fit the specific identity necessary to fulfill their vision. I'm looking forward to seeing a rough-cut of this project and begin to get a clear picture of how these treatments could work.

Looking to get back to this motion project soon. Here's where I am with it. Need to adjust and tighten up a bit, making the movement and transitions not as jerky. But the over all idea is making a quick video snippet that can transition to an additional video. Much like something which would lead to a highlight.

I bit of an old video, but a nicely done idea with some sweet sounds from the Daft Punk Brewsters. I was specifically pleased with the arcade scenes much more than the virtual world. I think this has more to do with the attention to detail in that opening scene than anything else. The rich textures and colors in the beginning make for the virtual world the viewer is about to enter a much more 'new' experience.

Broke out my number 2 pencil and some paper to sketch out this doodle here. In a very non-traditional process I then scanned the drawing and and "inked" with Ai, really more as an experiment than nothing else.

Once I was happy with the lines I then moved over to photoshop and began to layout the colors and addtional elements. As you can see from the two versions, even though I ended up going with the black and white version, I can honestly say I rather much enjoyed the color version. Specifically that lack thereof of strong blacks.

Good times.

I became interested in this video primarily because of it's use of the Canon 7D. Additionally, I guess digging some hawaiian waves doesn't hurt. The film was made by Devin Graham. Here's a little more about it:

"On a technical note: The entire video was shot on a Canon 7D, all in 720P, at 60fps (frames per second). I used a couple different Canon lenses to shoot this, they were...
Canon 70-200 F/2.8
Canon 100-400 F/4/5.6
Canon 2X III Extender (this makes the lens when it is at 400mm, become 800 mm's. It does loose some quality, but it's not very noticeable.)"

"The entire video was shot all on the North Shore, at Pipeline, and Waimea for the big waves. To get the "super slow motion", after I filmed at 60fps, I through it into the program "After Effects". I used an effect that comes with the program called "Time Warp". This allowed me to make the 60fps, to 1000fps. The way this works is the computer processes/adds frames in between the frames that are already in existence. It took several days for the computer to process the clips into the super slow motion that appears as well, so it does take a lot out of the computer, as far as processing goes."
